5G Communications: A Friend or Foe

Radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) spread is explosive, and its health effects are still under the radar. It promotes oxidative stress (it interacts with human tissue and does electrochemical changes), a condition involved in cancer onset, several acute and chronic illnesses, and vascular homeostasis. The WHO IARC accepted RF-EMF as “possibly carcinogenic to humans”.
Although the biological effects are scarcely investigated in this severe scenario, an international
action plan for developing 5G networks has started. Soon 4G will be replaced by 5G. Preliminary
observations revealed that EMF alters gene expression, promotes cellular proliferation and synthesis
of proteins linked with oxidative stress and inflammatory and metabolic processes, could generate
ocular damage and affect neuro-muscular dynamics. Furthermore, studies are needed to understand the health effects of RF-EMF. However, available readings seem sufficient to demonstrate the existence of biomedical outcomes, which should decrease the permissible limits. Moreover, the interaction of 5G with already proven cancer-causing agents is still not under our grasp yet. These factors may potentiate the risk of cancer along with EMF-RF.
